LASH LIFT! THE LATEST TREND

IMG_1614.jpg

The Lash Lift is the newest technology in semi-permanent lash perming that takes your natural lash and applies a desired lash curl lasting up to 10 weeks! The Lash Lift uses different sizes of silicone lash shields, each designed to give a different curl. Each natural lash is “lifted” individually at the base of the lash, creating a perfect curl, customized to your natural lash length. With lifted lashes, your eyes immediately open up and lashes instantly appear longer. The entire treatment is about 45-60 minutes with results lasting 6-10 weeks!

WHO IS A GREAT CANDIDATE FOR A LASH LIFT?
Actually, almost everyone is a good candidate for a Lash Lift! It is especially great for those who are sensitive or allergic to lash adhesives, those who are happy with their natural lashes and only wish to add a curl opposed to length and volume and others who prefer the natural look a lash lift gives! However, those with very short lashes would still be better suited for lash extensions as a lash lift might not create the desired or expected results.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
A Lash Lift will take approximately 45 minutes and a Lash Lift + Tint around 60 minutes.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Just like traditional perming solution, the Lash Lift perm solution breaks the bonds of the hair allowing it to take the shape of the lash shield to create the desired curl or "lift". Then a neutralizing setting cream is applied to reset the bonds in the lash. This will create a beautiful, natural looking curl, lasting up to 10 weeks!

IS IT SAFE?
Yes! The solutions used are gentle and even clients who have been sensitive or allergic to lash adhesives, in the past, report that the treatment is very comfortable with no irritation or discomfort. This is why a Lash Lift is such a great alternative to those unable to enjoy the benefits of lash extensions.

HOW LONG DOES A LASH LIFT LAST?
The Lash Lift lasts up to 10 weeks and depending on the length of your lash growth cycle. As your "lifted" natural lashes shed and a new lash replaces it, the new lash will grow in straight and will need to be "re-lifted" to create the desired curl once again. Each client will vary due to other factors such as after care, natural oils, sweeting, swimming ect..

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I COME IN TO KEEP UP MY LIFT?
We recommend avoiding re-lifting before 8 weeks, depending on your personal growth cycle. The product is gentle enough, but early re-lifting can cause over processing the previously lifted lashes.

WHAT IF I DON'T LIKE THE CURL?
We know you are going to absolutely love your lash lift but if you don't for any reason please let us know within 48 hours and we can easily relax or re-lift your natural lashes after the required 72 hours from the time of the original lash lift.

BRIDAL BEAUTY COUNTDOWN

IMG_9848.jpg

You've got the dress, but there's still tons to do before that walk down the aisle. Mark your calendar with our prep list and find out which essential steps you should be taking months, weeks and hours before you say "I do!"

GIVE SKIN SOME TLC

Unless your doctor says otherwise, start this skin regimen at home: Wash your face twice a day with a mild to deep cleanser, depending on skin type; slough twice a week with a fruit-enzyme exfoliant; use a brightening serum and a high-SPF sunscreen daily; and apply a hydrating cream with gentle anti-agers every night.

SCHEDULE A SERIES OF FACIALS

If your skin is in good shape and doesn't require a doctor's care, We recommend a facial every four to six weeks, starting six months before the wedding. Early on, experiment with different kinds—a brightening antioxidant facial one time, a rejuvenating light-emitting (LED) facial the next—to see what your skin responds to best. We highly recommend @cindy_microdermabrasion_queen

SEE A BROW SPECIALIST

"You need lead time to sculpt virgin brows or grow back sparse spots," At Monali we Like to follow the natural line of your brows and take a conservative approach. "The most flattering shape for brides is full with a nice arch," Book shapings every four to six weeks leading up to the wedding, and abstain from DIY plucking between visits.

CARE FOR YOUR HAIR

When you shampoo, spare your ends by focusing on your roots, shampooing only every other day. However, do condition daily and use leave-ins for added manageability. Give the straightener and curling iron a rest to let hair heal, and remember to use a moisturizing hair treatment weekly.

LET IT GROW!

If you dream of flowing locks on your wedding day, start working toward your goal now. Keep in mind that hair grows about a half inch per month. Trim no more than an eighth of an inch each time.

CONSULT A COLOURIST

Discuss any hair colour changes you're contemplating now. Semi-permanent glazes are great gateway dyes that give a hint of tint. Permanent single-process colour easily covers greys. Golden highlights photograph best, adding depth, texture and sparkle.

HAVE A DRESS REHEARSAL

Bring a snapshot of your gown and headpiece to your hairstylist. If you'll need hair extensions, ask your stylist to order them now; they'll need to be cut and coloured to match your hair. Still having trouble committing to a look? Try a classic chignon or a half-up, half-down creation.

BOOK WEEKLY MANICURES

Schedule weekly manis—especially if you're a nail-biter—and monthly pedis to create a uniform length and shape for nails (think medium length with rounded square edges). If you haven't yet chosen a nail polish for the wedding, pull a dozen colours you like and try a new one each week. Once you decide on your colour, buy a bottle for emergency touch-ups.

GET YOUR LASH ON

Eyelash extensions or Lash lifts are the perfect solution for that extra pop. Make sure to get your extensions done at least once or twice before your special day 3-4 weeks apart and then a refresh top up 2-3 days before your big day is ideal. At Monali we tailor your lashes to best suit your eye shape and look you are going for.

DECIDE ON YOUR MAKEUP LOOK

At your trial run, "aim to look like yourself but better by defining brows, lashes and lips, and giving skin a healthy glow. Take pictures of your finished face—indoors and out—so you can see how you look in different lighting. Studying these shots can help you determine if you want to pump up your shadow or switch from a foundation to a tinted moisturizer.

POLISH YOUR PEARLY WHITES

"Get a professional bleaching now since the procedure can leave teeth sensitive for two weeks afterward," Keep your teeth dazzling by avoiding red wine, coffee, tea, and berries leading up to the wedding.

TRY ON A SPRAY TAN

Professional air bronzers can customize your colour—test out different aestheticians to find the one who does the best job. Your glow should last between five and seven days. Keep your new colour going strong with an at-home gradual self-tanner. We recommend @melt_beauty for the perfect tan.

GO FOR ONE LAST TRIM

Three weeks before the wedding is ideal. "Any blunt lines will soften by the big day, giving you a clean, natural look that falls perfectly,"

THINK BEFORE YOU LATHER

Wash your hair the day before the wedding if you plan on wearing it up so strands will be easy to work with. Squeaky-clean hair gives bobby pins and accessories the slip, so don't lather up the day of.

HYDRATE!

"Drinking plenty of H2O, using water-based moisturizing products, and spending time in a steam room can plump up skin cells and enhance luminosity," If you don't have access to the latter, run a humidifier in your bedroom the night before the big day

This is such an exciting time in your life so make sure you enjoy the lead up and let us at Monali help take the stress off you!

EYELASH EXTENSION AFTERCARE

IMG_9519.JPG

Monali Hair Lashes we aim to provide beautiful eyelash extensions for our customers and support our lash stylists in keeping our clients satisfied. Part of this care is making sure that the client goes home armed and ready for perfect lash aftercare. Today’s blog is going to review some vital information to make sure that you know exactly what to do to keep those lashes luscious.

To make sure the extensions last as long as possible without irritating the eyes, you will want to take good care of those extensions once you leave the salon. The goal is to help the extensions last until the natural lash they are resting on naturally sheds. In other words, keep those lashes lasting as long as possible for maximum fullness and thickness.

First things first. You will want to keep their new lashes from getting wet for the first 48 hours after application. This includes swimming, showering, or any type of activity that allows moisture to build up on the lashes. After 48 hours they should be fine to wash with our Lash Shampoo twice a week, brushing gently with your take home lash brush. Brush your extensions daily with an eyelash brush to remove clumps or lashes sticking to each other.

Avoid oil-based makeup or beauty products around the eye or lash areas. These can cause the glue to break down resulting in lost extensions. In addition, you will want to avoid waterproof eyeliner and Mascara, as those can also interfere with the lash bond. Cleanse the eye area with our specially formulated makeup remover wipes. Also, make sure you don't rub your eyes or pull at the extensions even if there is an itch. You don't want the extension to fall off because you may have lifted them off your natural lashes.

For a one off Set of Lash Extensions they should last upto 6 weeks, The extensions gradually coming out with your natural lash shedding cycle. Prepare for them be addictive as once you try them you may not want to go back! If so plan to refill your lashes between 2 to 4 weeks. Monitor retention and be mindful of the time in between refills.

There are a few do’s and don'ts when it comes to your lashes and sleeping. Sleeping on your back is the best way to preserve your lashes, however, if you’re a side or stomach sleeper, try catching your Zzz's on a silk pillowcase. Fiber’s in a traditional cotton pillowcase can snag and pull your extensions. The effects of dragging lashes on cotton, rather than gliding on silk, helps prevent premature shedding and (bonus!) wrinkles and allergic reactions due to silk’s hypoallergenic properties. For added protection, slip on a domed sleeping mask to safeguard your lashes from rubbing. A sleeping mask also blocks out light 100%, so you can get undisturbed beauty sleep and wake up looking rested, rejuvenated and lash-ready for the day.

These simple aftercare tips will help your lashes look their best, for the longest! If you would like more information please read the aftercare sheet we give you after your first appointment, Otherwise please contact us on 08 9433 2252/0481 673 559 or email us at sandy@monalihairlashes.com.au

And last but not least make sure you flutter those lashes to anyone that notices !

WINTER HAIR S.O.S

long-hair-winter-woman.jpg

During the chilly Winter months our hair and scalp often suffer. The combination of cold outside weather and indoor heating can wreak havoc on your strands. stripping moistureand leaving it dry and causing breakage. but don’t despair we have some tips to avoid this fate.

1.Deep condition.

Getting a treatment regularly or doing one yourself will not only strengthen your hair, it will help retain its moisture—especially if you chose to keep highlighting through the winter. We Recommend Kevin Murphy’s Young again Treatment for at home or ask for an add on at your next hair appointment.

2. Use leave-in conditioner to combat static.

Floating, fine strands are a common occurrence during winter, which is a key sign of dryness. To help reduce static be sure hair is hydrated with regular conditioning, then lock it in with a leave-in conditioner. We recommend Eleven Leave-In Miracle Hair Treatment.

3. Forgo platinum hair colour for a darker dye this winter.

If you were thinking of a change, winter might be a good time to dial down the blonde ambition. “Anytime you can switch off is good. Platinum is awesome, but it’s so incredibly damaging for the hair.” Leaving the roots a little darker and applying a demi permanent hue until the weather is kinder. “That way, it washes out, and the process won’t be that detrimental when you’re ready to go back to platinum again.”

4. Cut down on your heat-heavy styling routine.

All that heat and dryness will result in split ends and breakage. The use of heat protection, including leave-in conditioners, to prevent breakage. All Kevin Murphy products have a built in heat protectant. “BONUS” Also try protective styles, such as braids, buns, twists, and ponytails, which give hair time off from the heat routine.

5. Wash less.

Less shampoo means more moisture. Although not washing as often makes some hair feel oily, most of us have discovered dry shampoo and how it allows us to skip a shampoo or two. But in the winter, it can live up to its name a little too literally and dry hair out. In this case, we suggest combing the dry shampoo in from the root of your hair to about an inch down. This will help pick up any product build-up that may be causing dryness. Then lather the ends in oil: The drier and thicker the hair, the more oil it will take. Eleven’s Give Me Clean Hair or Kevin Murphy Fresh Hair is a fantastic fix.

6. Dry scalp.

A change in weather can cause your scalp to peel, In the winter, there's less humidity in the air, which can dry out your scalp. We recommend Kevin Murphy Maxi Wash- A detoxifying shampoo that breaks down fatty acids for a clean, clear scalp. The balancing essential oils penetrate the scalp to brighten hair and purify an oily or flaky scalp. It contains anti pollutant ingredients that remove build-up of unwanted products and chemicals. Apply to wet hair and gently massage into hair and scalp (do not scrub), leave for 1 minute then rinse.

7. Layer with care.

Ever wonder how you got that giant dreadlock-like gnarl at the nape of your neck? It is a result of the friction caused by layering your clothes over your hair. When putting on your winter sweaters and scarves, part your hair down the back of your head in the middle as if you were making low pigtails, pull towards the front, then wrap your scarf around your neck.

Make these tips a part of your hair care routine and your hair won’t even notice that winter is here. A little extra care can go a long way when it comes to ensuring hair health.

EYELASH EXTENSION MYTHS YOU CAN STOP WORRYING ABOUT.

There are a lot of myths out there about eyelash extensions—from it being a painful process to the notion that your natural lashes will all fall out and cease to grow back ever again. As a lash extension specialist who applies an average of six sets of extensions per day, I'm here to bust the common misconceptions. If you have ever considered getting them done, read on!

YOUR EYELASHES WILL FALL OUT

False, your eyelashes fall out anyways. You just don’t realise it because they’re small and fine, but our natural lashes have a hair cycle of up to 90 days or approximately four to six weeks just like the hairs on our head. Eyelash extensions only get a bad rap because it’s more noticeable to spot natural eyelashes that have shed when they’re attached to long, thick, synthetic, and solid black fibres, and people don’t realise the process is normal and not a result of extensions.

YOUR EYELASHES WILL NEVER GROW BACK

Your eyelashes will, in fact, grow back. Because of the lash shedding cycle, new natural eyelashes are always growing in, hence why you get "infills.” “If new eyelashes weren’t always growing back, there would be nothing to fill,”In other words? If eyelash extensions really made your eyelashes cease growing, refills wouldn’t even be possible, because there has to be a natural lash for the extension to adhere to.

EYELASH EXTENSIONS HURT

Take it from someone who has gotten them done several times: Nothing about the process hurts! It’s not a matter of tolerance levels; there simply is no pain involved in the eyelash extension process. If you are worried about someone using tweezers close to your eyes, you might feel anxiety, but pain is not part of the deal.

ONCE YOU STOP, YOUR NATURAL LASHES WILL BE THINNER/SHORTER

“Getting eyelash extensions does not affect the natural growth cycle during or after you decide to stop getting them applied,” many people feel that their natural lashes get thinner or shorter afterwards, but it’s essentially an optical illusion. “You get used to waking up every day with thicker, dark, curled, longer lashes,” so, understandably, you think your eyelashes are thinner and shorter after the extensions have ended. In fact, that is not the case and getting extensions has no chemical effect on the thickness or length of the lashes you were born with.

“But just like it was something you got used to when you first had them applied, you will also have to get used to not having them on again, That, or continue to pay for extensions.

YOU MUST TAKE BREAKS

Many people think that you have to take breaks from getting extensions in order to let your natural lashes “breathe.” The idea that it’s not good to get repeated extensions because your eyelashes need breathing room is mere myth. “Your eyelashes do not know that extensions are being applied to them, and they continue to shed off like normal, and a new natural lash will grow back, However it is completely up to the client whether or not they wish to take a break.

THEY TAKE FOREVER TO BE APPLIED

False. It can take forever if the technician you’re seeing is just starting out at eyelash extensions or is inexperienced and untrained. However professionals who fully specialise in eyelash extensions can perform a full set in just an hour.

Remember – the application of eyelash extensions is a highly skilled craft and should only be attempted by trained stylists. For further information or to make an appointment, visit www.monalihairlashes.com.au.

HOW TO DO THE BOB BEST

Thinking of a change?… Shorter lengths are making a comeback this season!

Defining 'Mid-Length': "There are two camps of mid-length hair: Classic Mid-Length, which is below the jawline and above the collarbone, and Grown-Out Mid-Length, which is between the collarbone and the chest. It's a great look because it's super simple. The blunt cut is a similar 'nothing' look, but that's more a texture; the term 'mid-length' is an overall shape.”

Best For: "Fine-to-medium hair. Super thick hair can be tricky and less minimal; it will involve some back-cutting or channel cutting to create a subtle, uneven texture. But that won't deconstruct the overall line of the shape. You have to be extra careful with curly hair. One uniform mid-length on curly hair is very editorial and cool, but it's specific, and can be too wide on the bottom for a lot of women. We call this the 'lampshade' effect. Most girls freak out if they see that. You have to layer curly hair so it becomes a different look entirely.”

Styling: "This is an easy-peasy hair shape to style. It all depends on your hair texture, but for the most part, the less styled, the better. The less you wash it, the better it will look. It gets the best shape on the second or third day. And it looks great with scarves on, because the hair bunches really well. You can accessorize a mid-length shape really well.
